THE STAGES
The section of the GR7 that runs through the western Alpujarras is over 100 km long and can be done on a trekking without having to carry a tent. (look here for campings along the GR7). It passes many villages and the distance between the villages that offer accommodation is never more than 14 km.
The guide ´Walking the GR7 in Andalucia´ divides this part in 6 walking days from west to east.
The ´Senda Granadina Tramo Alpujarreno Laroles-Lanjarón´ divides this section in 7 walking days from east to west.

This blog is a gold mine of informations to prepare a trip on the GRs of the Sierra Nevada! Made by a hiker for the hikers. Thanks a lot.
Always nice to hear that our blog is appriciated. Thanks, ... and enjoy the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada! Walter
Agreed- this is a really helpful blog- thanks so much for taking the time. We are going to walk a section of the GR7 in Grenada province in a few weeks time and I am very excited about it! I have one little question- do you know if it is possible to buy methylated spirits (for our stove) in any of the villages/towns in the Grenada section? Is it commonly sold in grocery stores or petrol stations in Spain?
Many thanks!
Hi there,
Our own experience is that it might me difficult to find just what you want. Are you looking for standarised bottles like ´campinggaz´ has (and what type exactly!!!) or do you want to fill up your own bottle with something. Plan ahead, call or better email with foto to the first camping, or gasstation you will pass. People in the street won´t have an answer, but the ´Ferreterias´ are the big problemsolvers and centres of knowledge in Spain, even if the do not appear like that from the outside! In Granada city you may call "Solo Aventura" which is a small but specialised outdoors shop. They must be able to give more detailed information: http://soloaventura.com/

Thanks Walter! We have a trangia stove so we need plain methylated spirits- i.e. pure ethanol with a bit of methanol added to stop people drinking it! I understand it is known as Alcohol de Quemar in Spain.
Thanks again for posting.
Kirsty
alcohol de quemar is a common product and for sure available in the commercial centres.
